Medication before your visit
Whether to take your medication depends on why you are coming.
Before lung function testing
If you are coming for a follow-up examination or a diagnosis has already been made (COPD, asthma, other lung diseases), please take all inhaled medication as usual — we want to assess your condition while on treatment.
If you are seeing a respiratory specialist for the first time and diagnostic testing is planned, please do not use any bronchodilator medication on the morning of the examination day, if that is possible. This matters so that we can measure the baseline condition of your airways.
Before allergy testing
- Antihistamine tablets: stop 4 to 5 days beforehand
- Corticosteroid tablets: stop 4 to 7 days beforehand
- Montelukast: stop 10 days beforehand
Please always discuss stopping any medication with us or your general practitioner in advance.
